Where has Masculinity come from ?

I remember as a young adolescent, going through this stage of frustration — I felt so robbed and helpless, as I sat on the end of my bed staring into the abyss. I had at that point been involved 4 male figures, who were operating out of their own sense of masculinity. It was often a sense that as a man, it automatically meant they were worthy of the definition of categorizing themselves as masculine. I didn't personally agree with them. As I was entering the formative years. I found myself quite impressionable to these male role models and quickly finding out they themselves had no idea as well. They were just going along with this general idea of forming it with other men.

I had always seen men of Authentic power — those among the lines of Nelson Mandela, Barrack Obama and Winston Churchill for example. Although, they were all different in many aspects — in no way were they the anomalies in the identity of the masculine.

Now I need to note, this post isn’t intended to slander these 4 men at all, having entered into my early 20s — I see now that they were only using the tools they were giving. An often MISEDUCATION in the identity of the true masculine within.

So I wanted to give a brief overview of the conclusions I have factually come to realise through my research over my adolescence and young adulthood. With hope that I can help you challenge your current beliefs and rules of what a true masculine man is.

I would confidently say there have been a 2 key transition periods (among many others) that have amounted to the stagnation of masculinity.

The first and most present on my mind is the rise of Feminism, It was ultimately the most impacting and beneficial aspect for western society. it allowed for a balance in the grand scheme of things. It brought a light to a lot of the misdoings of men. it liberated women to pursue avenues that weren't present at the time. It has been a great advancement for everybody

BUT

It has lead to neutrality among both genders, for those who don’t know neutrality means that there is no negative or positive. everything is equal.

This is not ideal because the masculine and the feminine are opposites, Think equals in the sense of Yin and Yang not 50–50. The strengths of ones is the others weakness and vice versa.

Another, which is also quite recent is the Post-war effects on Men. it was during that time that men lost a lot of their mental health and capabilities. This is now ever more evident with the diagnosis of PTSD. In that young boys and teens were presented with often a deeply scarred father or father figure.

They in themselves lost a mentor who could teach them the valuable lessons of masculinity.

These are two examples of the past 100 years that have impacted significantly Masculinity in itself.

Masculinity isn't anything new, but the rapidly evolving world around it is forcing it to level up. We must return back to core lessons that should have been passed down but unfortunately weren’t. Using them as a base to further evolve masculinity.
