sunshine

I thought the shade was meant for me,
to keep me unseen, unheard. Unloved.
but it was only the shadows of his trees,
who give him a safe harbor from the sun;

I had cried a thousand tears in darkness,
for every time I’d want to feel his eyes,
the world would fall into starless night,
my poetry all seeming lifeless, supine.

frustration swells the fiercest storms;
I had thought the rain that drowned me
fell from all the trees and all the shadows,
who gave him sweet harbor from the sun;
