Tide and the moon

Clear sapphire skies swallowed the summer sun

Evening downed its guilty hues at the horizon

New moon had cast its shadow above palms now facing the sun, like a pearl emerging from the infinite

The sun faded into the horizon while the moon glimmered

High tide and southern wind formed a choir

He and driftwood, both emotionless, spectate the grand orchestra

Each tide aimed at the moon

Each wave thrashed the sand and drenched the shore, one yard and then another

Still skies and the ocean crescendo imparted another commotion

He sat in bewilderment as his moments froze and the sea air smothered him

The sudden ghastly wind shook the sickness of his soul, reminding him of the one who made his heart whole

Her’s was the image that came to his mind

His eyes swelled and rib-cage shrunk as his heart broke

The air still seemed to carry her essence, and the tides her heartbeat

He broke down and gulped lung fulls of the sweet ocean air, filling every cell of his body like a drug

A drug that reminds him what it is to love, rather than that makes him forget

He relives their years of togetherness in those moments, before slipping back into numbness that prevails

Moments that were frozen and memories that were made under these skies for half a century that they were married keep him alive

The soft breeze carried his tears to the ocean where they belong, leaving tiny salt diamonds underneath his eyes

She made his life a meaningful one

She was his ocean to the river of his thoughts

He stares into the abyss of the horizon, contemplating the melancholy of the tide that never touches the moon

To him she was the moon that is hard to reach and he was the tide that is waiting to reach his moon

He gathers his strength and strides to their abode where he stays alone, just like the black boulder on the endless shore…
