Do you believe in yourself?

This is going to be my first series and deal with positivity and false belief systems. The first part, which is this will deal with believing in yourself as the first step to living a positive life, because lets face it, we only have one life and we may as well live it in a positive way. By the time you finish reading this story you’ll understand why the only thing that matters in your life, is believing in yourself!

See throughout of lives when we grow up, we get conditioned into thinking and acting certain ways in certain situations. I believe that who we are is a combination of what happens around us and what our mental abilities make of it. So if we expose ourselves to a certain external situation and react to a certain way several times, this becomes a pattern, same goes for believing in yourself. What you are about to read is no scientific article and I’m not a psychologist, these are my own theories and how I manage to maintain a positive thought pattern and believe in myself.

I’ve spoken about this before but if you don’t know, after my parents got divorced it took a massive toll on me. I had always been an outgoing child, had lots of friends who I loved meeting and playing with. For a while I got super mad at my parents, I cried and went through some painful times leaving the life in Russia behind. I still remember the train ride from the remote village we were living like it was yesterday. Sobbing with tears in my eyes, I didn’t know that this exact moment was the start of the greatest adventures of my life.

Looking back I am in fact grateful for every single hardship I’ve been through, because it formed who I am today. When we are caught up in the moment of pain it’s often hard to see clearly, but if you follow this series I will do my best to help you guide through the process and bring back the positivity to you that you deserve. It’s all a perspective game, believe it or not, you can actively choose to see situations either from a positive or negative perspective. Same goes for your belief systems, you can choose to believe in yourself and you can choose not to, but trust me do one of the two often enough and it will become a habit.

Let’s do an exercise together, let’s find one false belief system that’s been holding you back and is not serving your life any purpose and let’s crush it together! We’ll call it the #crushingfalsebeliefschallenge . I want you to summon all the courage you’ve got and write that fear down on a piece of paper. Now we will say out loud: “I WILL CRUSH THE FEAR OF (name the fear)” and crumple that piece of paper in our fist. Now I want you to say it out loud one more time and mean it, and as you do it, throw it in the trash can, because this false belief is behind you know!

I never believed I would be able to learn a new language. Moving to Germany, into a completely new environment, new culture, new people the first thing standing between myself and getting on with life was the fear of not being understood when I talked. I had to face the fear and tackle so I could form a new belief system and learn the language. Over the course of my teenage years I managed to pick up 5 languages. Some languages like Russian, German and English I was forced to learn. Armenian I grew up with and by the time I was 18 I was so interested in languages that I chose to learn Spanish during the last years of high school. Remember this story next time you are faced with a difficult situation and develop fear, the first step will always be to face your fear and the second step is to summon the courage to tackle it and put out into the world that you will crush it!

The only thing that matters in life is that you believe you can do it! There is plenty of examples of how people achieved great things in life and it all started with believing in themselves. In fact it all starts with accepting that it’s an active choice we make, practice is a close second and third comes forming a habit of believing in yourself. Forget about the opinion of others. I have actually picked a rule a while ago and if you follow this one rule it’ll liberate you from listening to other people’s opinions: “If XYZ is not going to matter in 5 years, then it doesn’t matter now!”
